About

John Doogan's portraitI’m a photographer. I’ve been that way for some time. Twenty-six years ago I launched my photography career with my first real job, working for a Kodak minilab in New Zealand. Since then I’ve worked in a darkroom, for a commercial studio, sold cameras, retouched and combined images for agencies, travelled, and met the love of my life.
I have a BA in Computer Science (Massey University) so when photography became married to computers, I wasn’t daunted. In fact, I embraced it, starting with Photoshop 2.0.
These days I’m a freelancer, and have been since 1997. My main interest is in the landscape, particularly wilderness, but I shoot for a range of commercial and architectural clients too. As a New Zealander I have access to a range of stunning landscapes and I feel privileged to live here. I’m happiest when I am in the outdoors with my backpack, my camera and a tent.
In 2006 Adobe appointed me as an Adobe Ambassador. Since that time I’ve taught many photographers the finer points of Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom through ESeminars and workshops. I’m an Adobe Certified Expert in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom and a beta tester for both products. Each year my wife Jacqui and I run an 11-day photography and cultural tour in The Marche region, Italy. Find out more at www.italyphototour.co.nz
I’ve picked up a few awards along the way and I’m grateful for every one of them.
